5 Things Not To Say To A Military Wife

The list of challenges for a military family is long, it begins way before they go. The build-up, the stress, the planning. Before you know it they are gone again and you are left holding the babies, the forte, the job and hoping that there’s no drama on land or at sea; and that if needed, you’ll know where the stopcock is! (Maybe that was just me)

You do your best to prepare, and you will be strong for those around you and you will crack on with all that will be thrown at you, but one thing you cannot prepare for is the utterly ludicrously, ridiculous comments that seem to fall out of the mouths of those that just don’t get it…

Here are a few and some very Karen-esq responses!

1. Oh I know just how you feel, my husband works late sometimes too

Yes because that’s the same! My husband works away solidly for up to five months at a time, and yours on occasion works until 7 pm and sometimes has the odd night away, yeah you share our pain! 🤦🏼‍♀️

2. Ohh I don’t think I could do that, I would miss my husband too much

Well, unfortunately, there’s not an opt-out clause for deployment because your wife misses you too much

3. Well you knew what you signed up for

Yes, I married someone who chose to dedicate their life to protect others, therefore I must be punished 🤣

4. I’m sure you are used to it by now,

No, you can never get used to the person you love being gone for months on end and the worry that comes with it

 5. Ohh don’t you miss him?

Yes yes, I do! Every minute of every day

6. Ohh I’d love a bit of time to myself!

Really, me too!! Tell me what that’s like, because when your solo parenting for months on end. That doesn’t exist! 🤣

What other absolute gems 💎 have people said to you whilst your other half is on deployment? And what was your response?? 😆
